Rome, February 19 (ITAR-TASS) – Napoli have beaten Roma 2,065-2, and secured their first win of the season with a 1-0 win in Rome.
A 1-1 draw at the Stadio Olimpico on February 20 was the last straw for coach Antonio Conte, who was sacked after a 2-2 draw at Sampdoria on Saturday.
The Nerazzurri have lost two Serie A ties, in Serie A 1 and 2, since Conte’s departure from the club.
The former Juventus manager is also out of contract at the end of the month.
“We have a very good team, a lot of quality,” said Napoli coach Antonio Cassani.
Napoli’s goal was a rare one as the Bianconeri scored only their second goal in the match, after Marco Van Basten’s opener.
Roma goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon kept the score level after 20 minutes.
Marco Asensio was then denied by a superb save from Andrea Barzagli after a corner was taken.
With only 10 minutes left, Roma struck again.
Totti’s cross was headed by Romulo and Nemanja Nedved headed it home.
At the other end, Buffon saved from Raffael, and the keeper was forced to make a fingertip save from the next striker, Mario Mandzukic.
But the Nerazzuard continued to look for an equaliser.
Cassani had his side level when they went close in the 73rd minute when Romulo saw an effort saved by Mandzuka.
It was the third goal in as many games, but this time the goal was more in the balance as Roma kept their nerves.
They were again denied by the same defender, and Mandzuki was again denied when it came to goal.
However, Roma kept it tight for the final minute as they hit the woodwork twice.
In the final 10 minutes, Roma’s goalkeeper, Marco Carrera, made a great save from Mandzuko’s volley and Mandza went close.
For the second time in as few games, the home side were denied a goal.
